Presentation of new report

Foreclosed: State of the Dream 2008

This presentation of our new report will detail how the subprime mortgage crisis will impact African-Americans and other people of color. We found that it will be the greatest loss of wealth for African-Americans in modern US history. The report also estimates and compares the costs that will accrue to different racial groups, due to the racial bias in the way these loans were marketed and delivered.

Immigrant Rights and Economic Inequality

A UFE workshop led by Jeannette Huezo at a conference sponsored by the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (NNIRR) in Houston, TX. This workshop engages participants in sharing personal stories of their family or ancestors emigrating to the US, explores the history of the "push" and "pull" events, trends, policies, and laws that drive workers and families from their homeland, and identifies strategies to bring immigrant and native-born workers and communities together in a movement for economic justice.

Cost: Attendance open to health educators from the Merrimack Valley area, including community-based health organizations, departments of public health, hospitals, Ys, etc. that work on substance abuse, pre-natal care, smoking, violence prevention, and other such issues.
